The position involves 12 months of specialist breast surgical training and research in breast cancer. Monash Breast Unit comprises of 11 specialist breast surgeons who are all members of BreastsurgANZ and many who are ASUM trained. There is an accredited general surgical registrar, Breast HMO and intern in the unit with support from specialist breast care nurses. Monash Breast Unit participates in the national breast audit.
Monash Health is the largest Victorian Health service and incorporates Moorabbin Hospital (main), Dandenong & Clayton Hospitals (Melbourne). The size of the screening service is over 58,000 screens. Monash Breast Unit treats over 450 new breast surgery cases per year.
The fellow position will be funded by Monash Health. It is a full time position at 86 hours a fortnight. There is potential to participate in an on-call roster for general surgery, and for private assisting.

Breast Oncoplastic Surgery:
WLE with mastopexy/reshape, WLE with flap repiar LICAP, TDAP), WLE with mammplasty, Breast reduction
Breast Reconstruction Surgery:
Mastectomy with expander/implant, Mastectomy and autologous reconstruction (with plastics unit)
General and Other Surgery:
Nil, potential for participation in general surgery on call roster
Breakdown of hours:
Full time position with weekly diagnostic clinic, fortnightly breast oncology clinic, monthly breast screen sessions, 6 -7 operating lists a week, weekly post-operative clinic
Private Consulting:

MDT:
Breast Oncology: weekly, Fellow attends fortnightly; Breast Surgery/Reconstruction: 3 weekly, Fellow attends and presents; BreastScreen: weekly, Fellow attends
Academic & Research:
Fellow is supervised by member of unit or HOU to develop research project. Hospital has academic affiliations with Monash University.
Funded:

Salary:
Full time salary equivalent to Senior Registrar salary (or greater) and minimum salary package and requirements and conditions as required by law in the Hospital jurisdiction will apply | Position Classification: Registrar Year 6

Opportunity to participate in Melbourne based Journal club quarterly Attends lymphoedema clinic every second month The unit facilitates participation in BreastScreen on a monthly basis. The Fellow will be supervised in the BreastScreen Clinic with a consultant and may also attend independently when familiar with the process.
