Position Description

The Nepean Hospital Breast Unit offers an outstanding BreastSurgANZ post-fellowship training position designed to prepare trainees for independent consultant practice. All four BreastSurgANZ consultants have substantial expertise in Level II oncoplastic and reconstructive procedures, providing trainees with a breadth of experience rarely available within a single unit. Over 50% of operative cases involve Level II oncoplastic surgery or breast reconstruction.

Nepean Hospital manages a large and diverse patient population and is frequently referred complex reconstructive and revision cases. This provides exceptional exposure to complex decision-making, operative planning, and advanced surgical techniques.

The fellowship emphasises progressive operative autonomy, with trainees typically performing 50–80% of cases as primary operator early in the year and aiming for approximately 90% by the final quarter. In addition, trainees participate in general surgical on-call and endoscopy, maintaining core surgical skills and independent clinical decision-making.

Affiliation with the University of Sydney and the Nepean Institute of Academic Surgery provides opportunities for research, teaching, and academic development, ensuring graduates are well prepared for contemporary consultant breast surgical practice.
